While Everett, Washington-based Fluke Corporation is coordinating both equipment and financial donations to the relief effort in Japan, the health and safety of Fluke Japan associates and their families remains our top priority. At this time, all Japan-based associates have been accounted for and we do not believe any associates were injured as a result of the earthquake and tsunami.
Fluke associates are participating in the matching donation offer provided by parent company Danaher Corporation. All monetary donations made to the Japan Relief effort by Fluke employees will be matched in full by Danaher. The Danaher Corporation contribution will be routed to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Tsunami fund.
Fluke associates in Japan and around the Pacific Rim are assisting with the rescue and relief efforts, deploying manpower and equipment to assist in rescue efforts. Fluke Biomedical has dedicated their radiation safety production line to building radiation detectors for Japan relief efforts, and Fluke Thermal Imaging is providing multiple thermal imagers.
The Fluke Biomedical 541 Radiation Survey Meters are expected to be deployed by the Japan Defense Agency, which is managing the disaster response. The radiation meters will be used to help determine the perimeter of the area impacted by radiation release as well as to assess the exposure and contamination levels of people and materials from within the impact area.
The Fluke Thermal Imagers are used to scan buildings and rubble for signs of heat that could indicate a trapped survivor. Similar usage of Fluke thermal imagers in 2010 was credited as saving the lives of 16 people in Haiti. Thermal imagers were also deployed in 2011 in Queensland, Australia after the floods and as part of the Christchurch, New Zealand earthquake response.
Overall Fluke response to the situation in Japan continues to develop as events unfold. Members of the Fluke Japan team are in constant communication with corporate support groups around the world.
